About Colorado

Colorado, located in the western United States, has the highest mean elevation of any state. The state and its mighty Colorado River, take their names from the Spanish word "colorado" which means, "reddish colored".  Denver, the state capital and primary center of commerce, is home to over half of CO's 4,301,261 residents.

Colorado is renowned for the majestic Rocky Mountains, which dominate the western portion. Over one thousand of the Rocky Mountain peaks exceed 10,000 feet high and more than fifty peaks are over 14,000 feet.
The western half of CO features basins, deep canyons and valleys sprinkled with beautiful blue spruce and aspen trees.  Major rivers originating in Colorado include the Arkansas, Colorado, South Platte and the Rio Grande.  The Rockies give way to flatter terrain of the eastern portion of Colorado, where rolling hills and plateaus grace the stunning plains.

Colorado, U.S.A. is western living at its finest.  With the stunning natural scenery, limitless recreational activities and thriving economy, it's no wonder over four million people call Colorado home.
