I-81 Tractor-Trailer Wreck Causes Greeneville Detours

By Bill Jones
The Greenville Sun

"A tractor-trailer overturned and blocked both southbound lanes of Interstate 81 about a mile south of Baileyton on Saturday evening, causing all southbound traffic to be detoured into Greeneville.

Bill Brown, director of the Greeneville-Greene County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, said the accident forced traffic to be detoured along Tennessee Highway 172 (Baileyton Road) from shortly after the 6:24 p.m. accident until about 2 a.m. Sunday, when the interstate partially reopened.

A Greene County 911 spokesman said the single-truck accident was near the 34-mile marker of I-81 in northern Greene County.

Brown said he and units of the Baileyton-based United Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene, along with units of the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

THP Trooper Tyler Hall said truck driver Steven R. Kenner, 52, of Great Falls, Mont., told officers that he lost control of the U.S. Express tractor-trailer during a sneezing attack."
