Interstate 70: Interstate 70 (abbreviated I-70) ends in the state of Utah but finds it’s beginnings in a humble “Park and Ride” parking lot in Baltimore Maryland’s Leakin Park neighborhood.

I-70 was planned to end at Interstate 95 on the other side of center city Baltimore, but was abandoned due to local opposition.

I-70 was the first Interstate Highway project started in the US and follows the path of the National Road now known as U.S. Route 40, until it reaches the Rocky Mountains. I-70 leaves the state and enters Pennsylvania after completing its 94 miles in Maryland.

Traveling North West, I-70 serves the larger Maryland cities of Frederick and then Hagerstown before heading for the Pennsylvania border, completely bypassing Ellicott City.

I-70 then meets up with the eastern terminus of Interstate 68 before turning north and crossing into Pennsylvania near the rural wooded area of Hancock, MD and Dogtown, PA.

Interstate 70 is the major east-west corridor in the State of Maryland, and is the major roadway for products entering at the ports of Baltimore that feed the near and Midwestern portions of the US.

In the 40 mile stretch of I-70 in Frederick County, MD, the route was recently designated the Korean War Veterans Highway.

Just east of Frederick, I-70 generates its first spur road, Interstate 270, well known as the Eisenhower Memorial Highway to Washington D.C.

I-370 is the second spur, designated a tertiary spur, of Interstate 70. Although indirectly connected, it serves a branch of the Washington Metro Liner Station at Shady Grove, MD. It connects to I-70 via Interstate 270, just south of Gaithersburg, Maryland.
