Interstate 90:  The first section of I-90 in Pennsylvania opened from the Pennsylvania - Ohio border in Erie County, Pa in 1960. I-90 was designed to remove traffic from urban areas and improve travel time between Ohio and New York State.

I-90’s western border begins at the Ohio - Pennsylvania state line 3 miles west of West Springfield, OH, and its eastern border ends at the PA / NY state line. I-90’s entire length is 46.4 miles.

I-90 is also known as the Erie Thruway and AMVETS Memorial Highway. I-90 is part of the National Highway System, and emergencies are handled by 911 throughout its entire length. I-90 is located entirely in Erie County Pennsylvania.

I-90 has 15 exits; its main junctions are with I-79 (Erie, PA & Pittsburgh, PA) and I-86 (Jamestown, NY). I-90’s average daily traffic in 2002 was 47,000 vehicles.

As of 2006, the last major construction and renovation project was completed in 1999.
