Interstate
91: I-91, in the state of Vermont, is the backbone of transportation
in Western New England. I-91 enters the State at the exact middle of the
bottom of VT; about 10 miles south of Guilford, VT. I-91 then begins at
the juncture with I-95 in New Haven, CT, for a total length of 290
miles.
South of Vermont, I-91 serves the more populated and industrialized
areas of Hartford and New Haven (CT) and Springfield (MA). Once entering
the state of VT, it hugs the picturesque Vermont border along the
Connecticut River on its way north to La Belle Province in Quebec,
Canada.
I-91’s 177 mile path through Vermont was opened on November of 1958 and
was the first highway with controlled access to open in the state.
Interstate 91 meets Interstate 93 at I-93’s northern terminus in St.
Johnsbury, VT, routing east-west traffic from New Hampshire to I-91 and
on into Canada. |
