Child Severely Hurt in Highway 29 Crash

"An eleven-year-old South Dakota girl was airlifted to a Green Bay hospital with life-threatening injuries after a crash on Highway 29.
A tractor-trailer pulled out on the highway from Highway 156, colliding with a sport utility vehicle with a woman and her three grandchildren inside.
Deputies at the scene tell Action 2 News eleven-year-old Hannah Moore of Rapid City was unconscious, and they had to use Jaws of Life to get her out of the wreck. She suffered head and chest injuries.
The grandmother, Rose Vandervest, 63, suffered some cuts but she and the other two children, ages three and four, were otherwise OK, deputies tell us. They were taken by ambulance to a hospital to be checked.
According to deputies, the tractor-trailer crossing Highway 29 came to a complete stop on 156 and waited for several cars to pass. The truck driver, Christopher Sponenburg, 32, said he didn't see the SUV, and pulled out, hitting the passenger side of the SUV.
Authorities say everyone involved was wearing a seat belt.
The crash happened shortly after 3 p.m. That portion of Highway 29 was closed for six hours."
