Fiery Interstate 20 wreck cleared

"Traffic is flowing again on Interstate 20 westbound in Webster Parish after a fiery crash involving an 18-wheeler and a parked van this morning.

The accident was reported at 2:10 a.m. today, troopers with Louisiana state police Troop G said. The accident occurred around mile marker 52, near the interchange with state Highway 532, troopers said.

According to initial state police reports, the Webster sheriff's office first reported the two-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer rig and a parked van. Deputies reported the truck tractor was on fire.

Debris was all over the roadway, and traffic was initially diverted on state Highway 532 to U.S. Highway 80 to state Highway 531 to Interstate 20.

The driver of the Volvo truck, 50-year-old Sherwood D. Lucas of Elizabethtown, N.C., was cited for careless operation, according to state police reports. He was not injured, the reports said."
