12,000-pound machine falls off truck, damages I-95 in West Palm
By sun-sentinel.com
"WEST PALM BEACH – Workers were rushing to close holes left in the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 on Monday after a 12,000-pound machine fell off a flatbed rig, the Florida Highway Patrol said. No injuries were reported.
Troopers said a tractor-trailer was hauling a hydraulic lift machine south on I-95 between the 45 Street and Palm Beach Lakes exits when it fell off around 8:45 a.m. The impact of the huge machine hitting the roadway left two large holes.
Workers were called in to fill in the holes and expected to have the road completely reopened by 11 a.m.
The accident occurred in an area where the road is being widened. However, no work was under way on Monday because of the pending Fourth of July holiday. Two lanes on I-95 were shut to traffic so the repairs could be made while the right lane was kept open.
An investigation into what caused the accident is under way."
