Interstate
89: I-89 in New Hampshire travels from the extreme northwest to the
southeast portion of the state, slicing NH in half like opposite and
equal triangles.
This skewed path provides an almost direct connection between Boston,
Massachusetts and southern New England to the City of Montreal in
Quebec, Canada.
In addition to the 60 miles of I-89 in New Hampshire, its largest
portion is the 130 miles hosted by Vermont.
The southern 60 miles of I-89 contained in New Hampshire begins in the
city of Bow. Here, I-89 is born out of an interchange with Interstate
93, a few miles south of the State Capitol of Concord. I-89 progresses
westward for a dozen miles before taking a markedly northwestern
direction in the Contoocook area of the state. I-89 follows this path of
hilly terrain until approaching the city of Lebanon, NH. After leveling
off in a purely westerly direction to service the city of Lebanon and
its municipal airport, I-89 leaves the state at Grafton, New Hampshire. |
