Lewisburg, Pennsylvania is a charming town that brings back memories of simpler times, while maintaining a progressive outlook towards the future. Found in the enchanting Susquehanna Valley Region of Central Pennsylvania, the Borough of Lewisburg serves as county seat for Union County. A mostly rural area, Union County offers fertile river valleys and rolling mountain ridges. The lovely Susquehanna River winds through the region, and meandering brooks and streams stem from it, providing residents with quiet and peaceful beauty as well as excellent fishing.

Strategically located at the crossroads of Interstate 80 and US Route 15, Lewisburg residents are within an hour's drive of the cities of Harrisburg, Scranton and Williamsport. For even larger metropolises, New York and Baltimore lie only three hours away. The 2000 Census counted Lewisburg's population at almost 6,000, while Union County itself held 42,000.

Residents from many of the neighboring counties along the Susquehanna came to enjoy the Heart of Lewisburg Ice Festival held at the beginning of February 2005. Over thirty ice sculptures were displayed, including a one-ton heart of ice, honoring the main sponsor of the event, the local Evangelical Community Hospital. Lewisburg's own widely renowned Bucknell University provided live 'strolling music' through the downtown area by their vastly talented musicians.

Downtown Lewisburg is the heart and soul of the village, as it is in most small communities.  Lewisburg, though, has a very special downtown. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the district lights up softly at night with 1500 old-fashioned three-globe streetlights. The cast iron lampposts, made in 1912 by the Watsontown Foundry, are Lewisburg's own personal trademark.

The Downtown District contains over forty marvelous shops and restaurants, theaters and museums. Three charming bed and breakfast inns are housed in wonderfully restored homes: Annie's, Brookpark Farm and the Pineapple Inn. The Campus Theater delights visitors and residents alike. Built in 1941 in the Art Deco architectural style, the theater shows first-run foreign and independent films as well as quality Hollywood movies. Film festivals are held throughout the year. The Slifer House and Packwood House Museums carefully preserve Lewisburg's rich heritage, quartered in historic mansions of days gone by. Twenty-four restaurants grace the Downtown area, offering everything from gourmet fine dining in Victorian homes, to good old Yankee tavern food.

Lewisburg residents love their quaint, charming little town. Wise community leaders are looking towards the future to bring in new commerce and industry, without destroying the small-town atmosphere or local rural beauty. The Lewisburg Development Partnership works closely with developers and marketing strategists as well as incoming stores and firms. Lewisburg, Pennsylvania is sure to remain what it is today: a treasure of a community.
