Accident LawyersPittston,
Pennsylvania is located in Luzerne
County, in the northeastern section of PA. Surrounding
mountains, lakes and streams as well as fertile valley plains make this
area a lovely place to visit, work, live or play in.
The population of Pittston City itself is
just over 8,000 (2000 Census), but the greater Pittston Area contains
thirteen surrounding boroughs and townships. That population is
almost 50,000. Ideally situated between the metropolises of Scranton
and Wilkes-Barre,
it has access to a labor force of more than a quarter of a million people
within an easy commute. Housing costs and the crime rate of Pittston
are both lower than the national average. Pittston offers a variety
of housing types, from elegant, historic older homes to the very best in
modern architecture.
Eight different universities and colleges
lay within an easy drive of Pittston, including Penn
State University and Marywood
College. Interstates 80, 81, 380, 84 as well as the Pennsylvania
Turnpike all cross through Luzerne County, making everything easily
accessible. The Wilkes-Barr
International Airport lies only six miles from Pittston.
Pittston and the surrounding area were
once part of the huge coal industry that flourished in Pennsylvania
for many years. Pittston earned a grand reputation for its
manufacturing of the Pittston Stove, a type of the charming pot-belly
stoves so rarely seen today. In 1896, Pittston lost fifty-nine of
its men in a mine tragedy, when a dreaded cave-in occurred.
Nestling on the banks of the powerful Susquehanna
River, outdoor recreation abounds in the Pittston area. The
January average temperatures are 25 degrees, while July's are a gentle 71
degrees. Twelve golf courses grace the region, and Moon
Lake Park offers boating, fishing, camping and swimming in the warmer
months, as well as snow tubing and sledding in the winter. Skiing
awaits the adventurous, while quiet nature walks and miles of hiking
and biking trails can be found in the County's eight beautiful parks.
For sports lovers, the Pittston Area
offers the excitement of harness racing at Pocono
Downs. The Scranton
Pioneers football team and the Penguins
hockey team keep fans cheering. In the summer months, residents watch
their Red
Barons play baseball.
Pittston, Pennsylvania offers residents
and visitors the natural beauty of its area, as well as all the finest
modern amenities that big cities can provide.
