Semi overturns on I-81
By Edward Marshall
"MARTINSBURG —A tractor-trailer overturned on Interstate 81 on Tuesday afternoon injuring two people and causing traffic backups inside downtown Martinsburg and on the interstate in Berkeley County for several miles.
The accident happened shortly after 3 p.m. just north of the Exit 14 offramp. West Virginia State Trooper K.D. Castle said at the scene that the driver of the tractor-trailer and a passenger were transported to nearby City Hospital in Martinsburg for injuries.
Their conditions and identities were unknown at that time, he said. The single vehicle accident remains under investigation, and the cause of the accident had not yet been determined, Castle said. Troopers could be seen taking measurements at the scene.
The tractor-trailer appeared to have been traveling northbound on I-81 when it crossed into the highway’s grassy median strip. Tire tread markings were visible within the median separating southbound and northbound traffic."
