Interstate 20: I-20 is a major interstate highway serving the southeastern U.S. along a 1536 mile east-west path. It originates in Kent, Texas at I-10 and terminates two miles west of the city of Florence, South Carolina where it intersects with I-95.

I-20 is better known as the ‘Strom Thurman Freeway’ for the eastern half of its 141-mile swath across the middle of South Carolina. After entering the state at the Georgia border city of Augusta, I-20 serves the state capital, Columbia. I-20 goes straight through the northern portion of Columbia without benefit of beltways or bypass roads.

However, I-26 which skirts Columbia on a north-south route around the western portion of the city, and I-77 which terminates in Columbia, become what would normally be considered as city beltways.

Interstate 20 leaves Columbia, SC and heads east through sparsely populated area until it  terminates with its interchange with I-95. Local Business Route 20 (David H. McLeod Blvd.) continues another two miles from the terminus and connects with Palmetto St., the main roadway through Florence, SC.
