Tractor punches hole in house

"JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP — On his hands and knees, firefighter Don Wallace crawled through more than four tons of corn silage and hay, searching for any sign of life.

Mr. Wallace was filling potholes about 1 p.m. Tuesday when he heard the call come over the radio — a trailer hauling corn silage and hay had separated from its tractor on Archbald Mountain Road, careened down a steep hill and crashed through the front of a home at 974 Cortez Road.

"I wanted to make sure there were no people in there," Mr. Wallace said afterward, his sweatshirt and blue jeans covered with corn dust and sweat.

There were no people inside, but he did find a sign of life. A cat, Deena, was trapped and meowing for help."
