Tractor Trailer Accident in Newcastle Closes Rt. 1

"Stifling summer heat complicated response efforts for firefighters and police officers at the scene of a tractor trailer accident in Newcastle that closed U.S Rt. 1 for almost four hours Tuesday.
According to an offhand estimate from a Dept. of Transportation official, the temperature of the asphalt reached 137 degrees during the response period. Air temperatures in the area were believed to have touched 107 degrees Fahrenheit.
According to a preliminary report from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred around 12:05 p.m. when a northbound Freightliner tractor trailer, operated by Linwood Fesster, 67 Leola, Penn., struck a guardrail near the Academy Hill overpass. Fesster was towing a 70 foot long single wide mobile home at the time."
