Five hurt in a.m. turnpike collision

"L. MACUNGIE TWP. | A Thursday morning wreck involving two tractor-trailers and a van of the Pennsylvania Turnpike's Northeast Extension shut down the northbound lanes of the highway and injured five people, authorities said.

Pennsylvania State Police at King of Prussia said all lanes reopened at 10 a.m., about three hours after the crash between the Quakertown and Lehigh Valley exits, police said.

The injured people who were injured were among eight passengers in a 1993 Ford van. They live in Philadelphia. Only one was classified as serious, but the injuries were not life-threatening, according to police.

Police said the crash occurred because the van, which had been stopped on the shoulder, pulled into the path of a tractor-trailer driven by Morris Kehley, 54, of Coopersburg.

Kehley swerved but hit the van, which traveled onto the embankment. Two passengers were ejected. A second tractor-trailer behind the first was unable to avoid striking Kehley's rig, police said."
