Crash closes eastbound lanes
of bypass
A tractor-trailer spills 200 gallons of diesel fuel, closing the highway for
8 hours.
By Adam Wilson
"Eastbound lanes of the
West Shore Bypass were turned into a parking lot
Monday afternoon after a tractor-trailer struck a
concrete dividing wall near the Lancaster Avenue
exit and spilled 200 gallons of diesel fuel.
Both eastbound lanes were closed at the exit for
about eight hours, backing up traffic to the
Broadcasting Road exit and beyond. The roadway was
reopened about 9:30 p.m.
The accident, which occurred about 1:30, also
created heavy congestion on arterial roads as
eastbound motorists who were diverted from Route 422
sought alternate routes.
First Deputy Fire Chief Michael J. Moyer said the
driver of the rig owned by Cardinal Logistics,
Concord, N.C., swerved to avoid a car that had
stopped in the left eastbound lane after merging
from Lancaster Avenue."
