"A tractor-trailer driver lost
control of his rig this morning in Avra Valley, crashing
through three yards and plowing into a shed, a fence, a
power pole, a metal equipment barn and coming to rest
against a paloverde tree.
The 6:35 a.m. wreck threw 1,900
Tucson Electric Power Co. customers in parts of Marana and
Avra Valley out of power for about 2 1/2 hours, said Deputy
Dawn Barkman, a sheriff's spokeswoman.
The 49-year-old driver, whose
name was not immediately released, was flown to a hospital
for treatment of serious injuries, Barkman said, adding no
homes were hit and no one else was injured in the crash.
Barkman said the trucker may
have fallen asleep while driving east on West Avra Valley
Road about two miles west of Interstate 10 near North
Longview Avenue."
