Two crashes snarl U.S. 127 near Leslie
By Brad Flory
"One man was hurt and U.S. 127 was a mess in back-to-back crashes Saturday morning near Leslie.
An Ingham County rescue vehicle sent to the first crash was involved in the second wreck.
Trouble began about 8:40 a.m. when a 1994 Chevy Blazer traveling north was struck by a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am north of the Leslie exit, said Lt. Jeff Cook of the Ingham County Sheriff's Office.
The Grand Am, which was dented on the passenger side, skidded into the median. The driver, Amanda Weber, 18, of Leslie, was not hurt, rescue workers said.
The Blazer's driver, William F. Bates Jr., 60, of Leslie, lost control of the SUV and rolled off the right side of the highway.
The Blazer came to rest on the driver's side. Rescue workers bandaged Bates's head before he could be removed from the wreckage.
"When we arrived, he was pinned into the vehicle," said Lt. Dave Richard of the Leslie Fire Department. "After he was extricated, he was transported to Sparrow Hospital."
